THE SHOW WILL GO ON!

We hope you all are enduring school from home!  We sure miss seeing everyone's faces!  While it is difficult to imagine now, Ms. Lucy and Mr. Anderson are planning future performances once we can safely gather.  Please keep your costumes handy and in tip-top shape. You can even rehearse with the performance and sing-along tracks.

Refunds for tickets for the cancelled show have been provided.  Once we have firm dates, we will open up ticket sales again for our future performances.

While it feels right now like our show is "somewhere over the rainbow,"  we feel hopeful that THE SHOW WILL GO ON!

Wear your Wizard of Oz Shirt on Friday

Please wear your Wizard of Oz t-shirts and hoodies to school tomorrow.  It will cheer us all up to know we are all in this together!  We have very high hopes that we perform our show again in the future!  Spread the word!

Coronavirus Update

We are all feeling a little WITCHY today!  We need to postpone our show due to new recommendations  by the Granite School District and the State of Utah.  Please see our school website for more information. https://schools.graniteschools.org/rosecrest/2020/03/12/coronavirus-information/

Hug your kiddos; they are super sad.  We feel so badly to disappoint them, but we need to comply with the recommendations!  We will refund tickets and reopen sales when we have a new performance scheduled.  DON'T LOSE YOUR COSTUME!

Hello Wonderful Parents and Cast members,
We are well on our way down the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City now! We had a fantastic first dress rehearsal. Thank you to all of you for putting together such beautiful costumes. Combine those with our fantastic sets and we have a gorgeous show.  I have had such a marvelous time working with your children these last ten weeks.  They have been quick and ready learners and I have enjoyed every minute we have spent together.

Here is some information about hair styles for choruses:

Boys- all choruses-please wear your hair slicked back with gel and off your face

Girls-
Munchkin Options;
pony tail, pigtails or twisty buns (see picture)

Ozians Options:
Curly up do's.  (see picture)
Twisty buns can work for you as well if they fit your hat or fascinator.
Whatever you choose, your hair must up and off so we can see your adorable face.

Use  a lot of bobby pins or clips and hair spray so your hair will be secure and you won't have to worry about it.

Girl Monkeys:
Wear your hair pulled back in a pony tail or clips if it's too short.

Jitterbugs:
Twisty buns
Braided buns

BEGGING for help with CAST MAKEUP!

Yup its true, we are now officially BEGGING and PLEADING for help with cast makeup.  We need volunteers to come at 5:30 for evening performances and 12:30 for the Friday matinee.  We also need volunteers who can help during the ENTIRE performance because many cast members have costume/makeup changes during the performance.

Wearing costumes and makeup are a HUGE part of this experience for each cast member.  It is critical that we are able to help each student feel ready to go and shine on stage!  We cant really do that very well without lots of support backstage.

PLEASE sign up anywhere you can.  Contact Aania Gowans (801-706-5751) with any questions.

Thanks in advance for your support!

HELP NEEDED next week during dress rehearsals and performances

We still need backstage help during all performances and dress rehearsals next week.    You'll help cast members stay in the classrooms until they go on stage and then help them out on stage when it is their time to shine!  You can easily slip in the back and watch your student perform so you don't miss out.

Please open up the signup and see where you can help out.  Thanks so much to all volunteers so far - without all the volunteer help this amazing production would not be possible!   One week to go - woot woot!!!

Costume Distribution and Dress Rehearsals

COSTUME INFORMATION
We had a great costume check on Tuesday.  What a great community we have!  Thanks to everyone for helping your child look awesome and get excited for his/her role.  We sent each cast member home with a note for parents, so please be sure you find it.  It detailed any changes that may be needed to costumes, it showed money owed, it also showed that everything was perfect and ready!

We had a few students who did not have payment for costume pieces.  We can accept payment at rehearsal--costumes will be given once payment has been received.  If you have questions, please text me (Mary Ann Fuhriman 801-502-3661).  Here is the previous post regarding costumes CLICK HERE in case you need it.

DRESS REHEARSAL INFORMATION
Dress rehearsals will be Monday, March 9th and Tuesday, March 10th from 3-6pm (please note the later end time).  Students will need to be PERFORMANCE READY by 3:30 pm. Please take the time to instruct your student on how to get ready on his/her own--or please be available to help your student after school.

Here are some important steps to prepare for a stress-free rehearsal!

PREPARE COSTUMES

  • Mark your costume pieces with your name, so if they end up where they shouldn’t you can claim them.
  • Bring a basket (crate or sturdy bag) to keep your costume(s) in.  Make sure you return all of your items to the basket at the end of each show--even create a checklist if you have lots of pieces.
  • Repair any damage to costumes after each show.

MAKE-UP
All performers need to have basic stage makeup applied before coming to dress rehearsals and performances.  Take some time to teach your performer how to apply makeup, this way he/she can take care of his/her self for dress rehearsals and maybe then feel confident enough for performances.  Create a bag for your performer’s makeup to keep with his/her costume.

We do not have people available to apply makeup for the full cast.  We have many roles that require extensive makeup, and our makeup staff will need to attend to these performers.  Unless told otherwise, leads also need to come with basic makeup applied.

Basic stage makeup includes the following (boys and girls):

  • Foundation and powder
  • Blush
  • Eyeliner and mascara
  • Lipstick

Please watch for an email regarding your student’s hair in the next couple of days!

FOOD AND BELONGINGS
Absolutely NO FOOD/CANDY will be allowed backstage or in cast rooms, so please be sure your performer is well fed before coming to performances. Students will be able to have a snack before dress rehearsal as they are getting ready.  Students should come with a water bottle (marked with their name) to keep hydrated--it gets awfully hot backstage and onstage! We will have a table for water bottles to be kept as no beverages (even water) will be allowed in the cast room.

Students may bring electronic devices and/or books to use during performances.  These items should also be well-marked. Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their property.
